American Spies
During the american revoltion there were many spies. Many of these spies are not known by name today. Some are famous of there courage, others for betrading the patriots. The war had many patriots espionaging people in the colonies. You would think that they will be masked in black masks and hoods, but this is not how the spies operated. They lived normal lives, wore normal clothes, and acted like normal citizens. They would enlist in the army to be spies, Washington himself had to approve of the alliance.
Once he enough trust in the men he sent them to the major cities like Boston or New York. After this the turning point of the war could be in the patriots hands. Which led to the Americans winning the American Revolution.
Their Task
What they would do is first eavesdrop on the britsh mercenary and write down the information on paper with all kinds of different inks. Then they will try to make it out of Boston
and pass the heavy artillery. The spies will go to a rendezvous spot to drop of the message in a hidden box. The box is then picked up and sent to Anne Smith Strong who will then hung her clothes in a specific way. The way she hung her clothes revealed a secret code.
Finnally a salior decodes the message and delivers it to Washington.
Time line of Spies
On April 18 and 19 of 1775 is when Paul Revere heard the British plans and rode to town to town to warn them about the Britsh. Then on May 10, 1775 Benidict Arnold was invold with the war with Ethan Allen as the leaders of the attack. next Benidict burned his home town, New London, to the ground on September of 1780. On September 6, 1781. Benidict came back to the war but he was called tratior!
