Benjamin Franklin wasnt only an inventor, printer, and writer; he was also a spy. He was sent over to England on several occasions to spy out different things in parliament.

Nathan Hale was one of the most famous American spies. His regret was that he had "but one life to give for my country". Which also meant he only had one assingment as a spy. His assignment was that in Semtember of 1776 he spent a week pretending to be a school teacher and then made his way back to an appointed meeting place at Oyster Bay. On his way to Oyster bay he thought he saw an American ship so he flagged it down. It ended up being a British ship so the Brithish ship captured him. He got hung the nexr day.
Benedict arndold
Benedict Arnold was the most famous revolutionary war spy even though he was also known as a traitor. Benidict was very close with George Washington and he was his close friend. He was also an amazing captain of the govenors gaurd. He was happy but the congress was making him angry. So to get his revenge Benedict started secretly trading and communticating with the British. Benidict was supposed to be beheaded but he escaped on a ship to London. There he was rewarded for all his work with money and land.

Major John Andre was a British officer hanged as a spy. He was a great favourite in society, in Philadelphia and in New York during
their occupation by the British Army. Andre occupied Benjamin Franklins house for a couple months and while he was there he was known to steal items. Using common clothes and a false passport, Andre travelled toward New York with documents. Andre was stopped by three men at gunpoint and then he addmited he was British. The three officers then searched his body and found the documents hidden,

James Armistead Lafayette
When the Americans were fighting for independance James was a black slave in Virginia. He thought that he could help America so he asked George Washington if he could. He ended up having to pretend to be a runaway slave to be able to cross the enemy border lines and then Britians General Cornwallis recruited him as a spy. Back in America James and Washington planned to forge a false order for a large regiment of patriot soldier replacements. All of Lafayettes affective spying also gave him freedom and he wasnt a slave anymore.
